Rural Wyoming has remained much the same for thousands of years, including vast horizons with little to nothing in the way of trails or roads or fences. The magnificence of this much space evokes anxiety for some, delight and awe for others. For photographer Michael McClure, it is the artifacts of the human imprint on the land that signifies Wyoming's heritage.

The photographic preservation of these crumbling remains of Wyoming history offers a glimpse into a lifestyle we can barely comprehend as contemporary life thrives on technological advances and creature comforts. These images capture a portion of human endeavors in Wyoming's past and represent a slice of history few would see otherwise.

Michael McClure has worked as chief photographer for the Casper Star-Tribune, freelanced, and served as public information/relations officer for Wyoming Indian Schools. He has produced two interpretive photographic exhibits, Wyoming: Tradition and Transition and Artifact: A Cultural Geography of Wyoming.
