Over the past several decades, Latin American writing has transformed international literary culture, while women's scholarship has transformed academic criticism and cultural studies. These developments make the present moment a propitious one for a serious effort to make Latin American women writers available in English translation. This series allows Latin American women's literary and intellectual production to be seen in relation to their ongoing social engagement, their questioning of dominant national cultures, and their ongoing attempt to assert women's experience and subjectivity in the face of masculinist mythologies by featuring contemporary fiction and non-fiction by important Latin American women writers.
