Please email your proposal to the appropriate acquisitions editor. Proposals should include a cover letter, working title, table of contents, chapter summaries, sample chapters (ideally the introduction and one substantive chapter), information about competitive titles, and a resume or curriculum vitae. Please also include a rough total word count, including notes and bibliography, and information about proposed illustrations, if any.
Your cover letter should include a brief description of your project, including its main arguments and how it contributes to your field. You should also provide a realistic assessment of the projected audience for your work.
If you are proposing an edited collection, please provide a list of contributors along with their credentials. If any of the chapters have been previously published, include in your proposal the original publication information.
We strive to respond to all submissions in a timely manner. Please note, however, that due to the high volume of submissions we receive, we may take up to two months to respond to you. If an editor is interested in your proposal, he or she will be in touch about the next steps in the evaluation and publication process.
