About the Book

The Trump administration’s attempted and actual violations of the Constitution and the law have surpassed our worst expectations again and again. Add to that the legal morass surrounding members of the Trump campaign staff, and the United States finds itself led by the most corrupt administration in modern American history. The investigation by Special Counsel Robert Mueller on 2016 election interference and obstruction of justice led to multiple indictments that boggle even the brightest legal minds. So how can the rest of us make sense of it all?

Sara Azari breaks down the investigations, evidence, criminal charges, and defenses involving an ever-expanding rogues’ gallery of Trump associates and campaign members, as well as the president’s own criminal conduct. Her docket also includes a comprehensive summary and expert analysis of the Mueller Report. Azari addresses the consequences of President Trump’s conduct and considers whether the president of the United States is ever above the law.

An essential nonpartisan guide, Unprecedented gives readers the tools they need to understand the legal issues engulfing Trump’s campaign and presidency.

Praise

"This brief yet in-depth book is a gem. Its strength is that first-time author Azari, a lawyer who specializes in white-collar crime, simplifies the lengthy, massively detailed, and documented report, breaking it down into an easy-to-read explanation from a nonpartisan viewpoint. . . . Perfect for anyone seeking an authoritative understanding of the Mueller investigation from a dispassionate source."—Kirkus Reviews

“As a lawyer and journalist, it is always a challenge to explain complicated legal analyses so that people can get what matters most and why. And these days, citizens really need to know the facts and implications, free from spin. When it comes to understanding the charges rendered by the special counsel in the Russian interference probe, specifically the merits and arguments for and against it, this book is an easy read that tells you everything you need to know. Sara Azari has made a complicated matter into something digestible and understandable.”—Chris Cuomo, anchor for CNN

“Sara Azari knows of what she writes. I absolutely enjoyed reading this book.”—Larry King

“The Mueller investigation was the most important investigation of our lifetime but was also challenging for the public to understand, with charges brought against dozens of individuals and companies. Sara Azari does a great job of cutting through all this detail and making complex legal documents easy to understand.”—Renato Mariotti, former federal prosecutor, legal analyst for CNN, and legal affairs columnist for Politico

“I’m apolitical. And I investigated for both Special Counsel Robert Fiske and Independent Counsel Ken Starr in the Whitewater investigation of the Clintons. But I could not put this book down. It’s engaging, engrossing, and educational. No matter your political leanings, this is a must-read. It lays out and breaks down the legal issues involved in the Russian influence investigation in simple, straightforward language that’s easy for everyone to understand. Azari has penned an important work that every U.S. citizen should read.”—Jim Clemente, retired FBI supervisory special agent and profiler

“The Special counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation was convoluted and daunting to follow, even for lawyers. Sara Azari’s experience as a defense attorney and deft hand at explaining the federal criminal world makes her an ideal guide to these historic prosecutions.”—Ken White, former federal prosecutor and host of KCRW’s All The President’s Lawyers

“Sara Azari cuts through the political noise to simplify the complexities of the Mueller Report, the main players involved, and what it all means legally. Unprecedented serves as an excellent guide for every American to easily understand the extent and impact of the assault on the rule of law and constitutional norms perpetrated by Trump and his associates.”—Tara Setmayer, news political contributor for CNN and ABC, former GOP communications director, board director for Stand Up Republic, and host of Honestly Speaking with Tara Setmayer podcast

“Sara Azari’s love and passion for the law and this nation are evident throughout the pages of her piece-all-the-facts-together-so-the-people-shall-know book. I applaud her for the courage it took to write it.”—Rolonda Watts, journalist, author, actor, podcaster, and talk show host

“Entertaining, well organized, and well researched, Sara’s book will become a historical guide for generations to come. We are indeed living in ‘unprecedented’ times—which Sara captures perfectly. Never could I have imagined that covering true crime would begin on the steps of the White House. But who would have? A must-read!”—Joey Jackson, legal analyst for CNN and HLN

Unprecedented does an excellent job of documenting the unprecedented and unpresidential crimes of those associated with the Trump administration. Sara Azari explains the crimes, conspiracies, and convictions in a way that is accessible to the general public.”—John Heilman, professor at Southwestern Law School
